Study Guide
Study Guide – Feb. 28 – March 4
Celebrations are a part of life. Birthdays, anniversaries, accomplishments, holidays, etc. We celebrate to remember, but also to recognize the good in life. This week we learned how the Israelites celebrated the completion of the wall. Our study guide will take us away from Nehemiah to reflect on how and when we celebrate.
Mon. Feb. 28 – What is one point you remember from yesterday’s sermon? How did the service impact your life? What did God give you that needed yesterday? Read Nehemiah12:27-30. Levites are the priestly clan of Israel. How do you prepare yourself for worship? What do you know about the preparations made at church to make worship happen?
Tues. March 1 – What is your favorite celebration of the year? Why? Have you ever wanted to make up a holiday, just so you could have a party? Explain. Read Nehemiah 12:43. How do you feel when you are in a large crowd celebrating? Do you tend to lead the celebration or join the crowd? How do you picture the celebration of completing the wall? Why did they have reason to celebrate (see Neh. 6:15-16)?
Wed. March 2 – Do you ever find yourself praising God in private? What prompts these moments? Tessla, the person that discovered DC current, was said to watch thunderstorms and applaud God. Read Psalm 57:7-11. How does this passage move you to worship God?
Thurs. March 3 – Read 2 Corinthians 14:26-40. Recall a meaningful/moving worship experience. What made it special? What happens when worship is less than exceptional? What do you learn about worship from this passage?
Fri. March 4 – Read Psalm 18:1-3, 26:6-8. Try to write your own Psalm of praise to God. What things would you include that you want to rejoice for? How can you share your rejoicing with others as a witness to your faith?
